We adopted an 18 mo. old blue Weimer and she is a beautiful, loving, sweet dog. She did have separation anxiety, which our vet helped us deal with. Bailey is now 7 years old and one of the best dogs we have ever owned.

There are no bad dogs, just people who don't want to work with the dog.

I love Wegmaan's photos.

I have 2 male pups who are now 7 months old. One suffers from separation anxiety despite going for very long walks 5 times daily and only being left in their dog house with his brther for company for maximun 3 hours at a time. I am now trying sedatives from the vets to try and help him chill-out when we arent there. They have the most amazing temprament and love to be loved.... very hard work at the moment as they are very hormonal due to their age.. having had a weimeraner before who didnt suffer with this, it hadnt even occurred to me that this would even be an issue, hence our reasoning for getting 2!!! not quite working out like that.. but i'm sure it'll be fine over time...

My wife and I have a weimaraner. Some will tell you that if you let them sleep in your bed as an adult, you can't get them to sleep on the floor. When I married my wife, I found I was able to train him to sleep on the floor. He's not happy about it -- but he's trainable.

These dogs insist on being in the same room as their owners at all times. You will need an air purifier to deal with intermittent bouts of gas that make you want to retch. Placing the air purifier near the dog bed and facing it away from your bed will help direct the stink in another direction.

And remember -- they're cute only when they're young. And they live about 15 years which is a long time to spend with a dog that is not super-cute. Also be considerate -- anticipate that you will be spending 15 years with the dog and that it may severely affect your relationships in the future if you get too attached to the dog. One way to handle this is to wait until you marry a certified dog lover before making this purchase.

And they need constant reassurance like you and I need oxygen.

I agree with Terri. Dog ownership is a lot of responsibility, and unfortunately, many people do not take the time to properly research. Wegman as done absolutely nothing wrong. His photographs show his appreciation for this beautiful breed, and he has raised awareness about them in the dog world. This trend of 'fad' dogs has happened with dalmations, chihuahuas, and all sorts of other breeds. It is time that selfish and irresponsible owners take responsibility for their neglect instead of blaming William Wegman.

When I see dogs it reminds me of the movie Hachiko. I am not a dog lover because their diabolic and watery mouths scares the hell out of me. But now, I appreciate their existence and eventually bought one golden retriever puppy.

I just got a pup this week. She is great when we are around and is easy to train. She is a bit nervous to be outside... but we are working on that. We are also working on crate training her... AH! She did ok the first two days, but my hubby came home the 3rd day to find her out; the door broken off, and her laying in our bed. She did not destroy anything but knocked over a few things and ate 1/2 box of treats, she also either went potty or threw up on our bed (my side; I have to put her in the kennel each morning...) I was soo upset because I love this dog and I have done a lot of research and knew what to expect... I just thought we would the crate training would go better. Does anyone have advice? My hubby and I work during the day and are home around 5:30. I am planning (starting after work) to start running with her in the mornings before work and walk her when I get home...) Will this help her anxiety to be alone? I just don't want anxiety myself when I am at work... I am afraid that down the road the running/ walking wont help her anxiety to be away from us... Any help?

I just have to say that this dialogue is hilarious. i have a 6 yr old weim and he is an awesome dog- with a lot of neurotic tendencies. personally, i don't really care what color he is. i originally got him because i've always been fascinated by the breed, but now he's just my dog. and billy bob, quit trying to stir up the weim owners. if you want a really smart and loyal dog with a lot of needed attention and exercise, then get a weim. if not, don't get any dog because they all need those things!
