The most famous Weimaraner

Big Dog | March 8th, 2011

The most famous appearance of this breed was in the mockumentary movie, Best in Show. This film is about five dogs and their owners, determined to win the first prize of the Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show. The film switches among the owners and follows the steps they take in order to prepare their beloved pet for the competition. The owners have very different social backgrounds and they came from different places as well.

The canine contestants are the next: Beatrice (Weimaraner), Winky (Norwich Terrier), Hubert (Bloodhound), Rhapsody in White (Standard Poodle), and Miss Agnes (Shi Tzu). At the show, everything is put into place to start the great event by the host Trevor Beckwith. The commentator who increases excitement to the maximum is Buck Laughlin.

Although this movie shows the funny side of Weimaraners with a somewhat neurotic dog, we can see how adorable and special this breed is. These dogs are friendly, intelligent and are eager to please their masters.

Time to go for a walk!

Big Dog | April 12th, 2010

Weimaraners are fast and powerful dogs but are suitable home animals given appropriate training and exercise. They are not as sociable towards strangers as other hunting dogs such as Labradors and Golden Retrievers. Weimaraners are very protective of their family and can be very territorial. They can be aloof to strangers and to avoid aggression, they must be thoroughly socialized when young.

This breed requires a good amount of exercise each day to keep their body healthy and strong as they are bred to be hunting dogs and cannot endure boredom or inactivity. Schedule a daily walk with your Weimaraners with the Weimaraner JP Dog Wall Clock by WatchBuddy Timepieces which is 10 inch in diameter and has three hands. Your pet will surely appreciate games and play in addition to their daily walking and running exercises. You should learn how to calm them and help them learn to control their behavior so that they will not wear you out.

William Wegman’s Weimaraner Art….

D Dog Fan | March 13th, 2008

I don’t know about you but I am a fan of William Wegman and his photographs of Weimaraners dressed in tuxedos, baseball uniforms, wedding gowns and the like. They are comical, artisitc and in some ways tantalising….

Yet, I also found this comment that makes me think, and definitely shows that there is more to things than meets the eye:

” I hope Wegman stays with his non-Weimaraner art. Wegman has HARMED this breed by making them a popular “fad” dog. People get one and THEN find out they are NOT easy dogs to own and required LOTS of exercise, time and attention. Thousands of Weims have been dumped on shelters and abandoned (and killed) by people who saw Wegman’s photos and ran out and got a Weim. Weimaraners are not calm unless you give them hours of exercise or they are old. Damn you Wegman!”

Whatever your beliefs, it is hard to deny, that his Weim photographs are artistic to say the least:
